Poverty Action's 2008 Vote for a Change campaign is on its way to educating and mobilizing over 30,000 voters across the state!

We know the big buzz is about the presidential candidates.  But, we also know that important legislative races and initiatives are on the ballot too. Poverty Action wants to remind you to complete your ballot.

Vote NO on I-985Initiative 985 would take $125 million a year out of the state’s general fund and move it to a transportation account.  Taking money out of the general fund would mean less money for health care and education.  At this time of economic uncertainty, this means that more people would be unable to meet their basic needs.

Vote YES on I-1029Initiative 1029 would improve long term care for seniors and people with disabilities by setting standards for caregiver training.  This means that people have more options when it comes to care.  It also provides more opportunities for low-wage long term care workers to earn more money or move into higher paying jobs.

You can help now! Volunteer to Mobilize Low-income Voters

In order to reach 30,000 people across the state we will need hundreds of volunteers!  Volunteer opportunities specific to this campaign begin NOW and continue through November 4th.

On Saturday September 6th, over 14,000  families from across the country participated in conventions in Birmingham, Chicago and Los Angeles. Poverty Action helped mobilize close to 700 of those families! At the conventions families called on their communities and lawmakers to address the issues that families with low incomes face in Washington and across the country. Topics included healthcare, jobs and income, criminal justice, immigration, childcare and education.

The conventions were part of the Equal Voice for America's Families campaign launched by the Marguerite Casey Foundation.
