2008 Vote for a Change Campaign:
Election Season Success!
Poverty Action launched our voter education and mobilization campaign in 2004. This year, starting in June, we set out to reach an unprecedented 30,000 low-income, infrequent voters through a targeted phone and mail campaign. Our message was simple: know your candidates, vote down the ballot, vote YES on I-1029 (supporting homecare worker training), and vote NO on I-985 (opposing Tim Eyman's ghastly traffic-increasing, general budget-slashing horror).
Together, Poverty Action staff & volunteers…
Engaged our community - 155 phone-bankers collectively volunteered over 550 hours of their time to make our Vote fora Change Campaign a success!
Educated over 40,000 voters- we reached voters across the state through targeted mailings, our online voter guide, and voter education calls to Vancouver, North Pierce County, South King County, and Spokane.
Mobilized people to get out the vote - Poverty Action volunteers made over 60,000 calls to Get Out The Vote among low-income, infrequent voters, encouraging voters to vote NO on I-985 and YES on I-1029.
Our efforts were evident on Election Day: more than 60% of Washington voters voted NO on I-985 and more than 70% voted to pass I-1029! In addition, voter turnout this year broke a 64 year old record, with almost 85% of registered voters casting their ballot.

Yes, Poverty Action volunteers are Vote For A Change SUPER HEROES!
